We have prepared a special print edition of Spotlight to coincide with
the Treatment Action Campaign’s 6th National Congress taking place
from 23 to 25 August 2017. Amongst others it contains updates from all
seven TAC provinces and articles on treatment adherence and the future
of ART – as well as short briefings on the state of the TB response,
the state of SANAC and analysis of South Africa’s National Strategic
Plan for HIV, TB and STIs 2017-2022.

Community care model improves uptake of TB preventive therapy, KZN study finds

The uptake and continuation of tuberculosis preventive therapy were much higher when it was provided through a community-based model compared to the standard clinic-based model, a study conducted in KwaZulu-Natal found. Elri Voigt unpacks the study findings, which were recently presented at the Conference for Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Seattle, USA.
